Covid Tracking App

There is a new smartphone app that can alert you if you were in close proximity to someone who later tested positive. The app is completely private, and does not use your personal information, location, or travels in any way. On Apple devices, activate Exposure Notifications in Settings. On Android devices, download the WA Notify app. You can get more details at www.wanotify.org.

South Bellevue Virtual Neighborhood Walk

The City of Bellevue this year will be holding “virtual” neighborhood walks to encourage communication between residents and city leaders. The session for South Bellevue will be this coming Tuesday, August 18, at 7:00 PM. I will be on the panel discussing issues relevant to Horizon Crest. If you have questions you’d like to hear city leaders answer, please reply to this email and let me know! The link to join the webinar and more details are below. City staff on the webinar will be

  1. Brad Miyake, City Manager
  2. Kate Berens, Deputy City Manager
  3. Mike Brennan, Development Services
  4. Joy St. Germain, Human Resources
  5. Carl Kleinacht, Deputy Police Chief
  6. Kevin McDonald, Transportation Planner

No Yard Waste Dumpsters

We’re sorry to report, we won’t be able to have neighborhood-wide yard waste dumpsters this year. The City of Bellevue has started enforcing their long-standing prohibition on placing these on the street. In the future, we will explore other sites, such as Lattawood Park, or private driveways. But for this year, we’ll have to skip this very popular HCCA benefit.

If you have extra yard waste to dispose of, you can put out up to four 32-gallon containers each week for Tuesday pickup. Branches must be cut to less than four-foot lengths, and less than 4-inch diameter.

You can also take yard waste to the King County Transfer Station in the Factoria area for a fee.

2020 Plans

In light of the COVID situation, and with lower dues income this year, we have modified our planned activities for the rest of the year:

  1. We will have two yard waste dumpsters in the neighborhood for yard cleanup. Since every neighbor is an HCCA member this year, every neighbor can use them! We will plan to have the dumpsters over two full weekends in the near-ish future. The specific days are yet to be confirmed. We will let you know in a follow up notice.
  2. We are canceling the neighborhood picnic, traditionally held in mid-July. It is probable that social distancing restrictions will still be in force then.
  3. We will plan to have a lower-key neighborhood gathering in the fall, or when restrictions are loosened. We’d love to hear your suggestions on what that gathering will be!
